On Coeliac Disease and Gluten-Free Ravioli

Have you heard of coeliac disease? No? Maybe gluten intolerance? Ah yes, one of those fashionable allergies everyone is talking about at the moment. People keep asking me “Do you really have this, has it been diagnosed by a doctor? You know you should watch out for such and such symptoms and then get tested”.

Paleo Burger with Cauliflower Buns

In my last post, I talked a little bit about the Low Carb thing. This time, I’ll focus on the paleo or caveman diet. Around two weeks ago, I was at the Allergy & Free From expo in Berlin and came across the amazing Eat Performance booth, exclusively offering paleo products.  As the paleo diet is grain-free, it is naturally gluten-free and mostly low carb, so ideal for my needs. I tasted a heavenly luscious banana-vanilla cake made with tapioca flour and was particularly fascinated by the large variety of flour alternatives and how creative cooking and baking can be.

Raw Food Christmas Cookies

In the press, raw food is already being hailed as the next big trend. Unsurprisingly it comes from the US – from California, to be exact – and the beautiful and eternally youthful as well as those who aspire to be either or both, swear by it. So Hollywood has got itself a new hype, but one that’s actually healthy, low-calorie and more versatile than it seems at first glance! But most importantly: the raw foodies of today have very little in common with the grazers and crudité-nibblers of lore.

Cocoa and Berry Energy Shake

What a wonderful autumn we’re having – 20 degrees and plenty of sunshine, and it’s already November! But autumn doesn’t always charm us with its beauty and one of its great disadvantages is the fact that by 4:30pm, it’s already dark out, which makes us all a bit more tired and sluggish. I am someone who functions best at night, so I do most of my work in the evenings. But when it gets dark as early as it does right now, I am noticing my energy levels dip a bit. I’ll tell you what I do about it…

Power Cookies

I used to have to make a daily trip to the health food store in order to stock up with foods I couldn’t get anywhere else – gluten-free products, more specifically. Now, supermarkets all over the place have started offering gluten-free and health foods (following several gluten- and other allergy hypes), but health food stores are still my very own food shopping paradise. Every time I’m there, I’m fascinated by the progress in the health food and organic sectors and specialty areas like veganism.

Low-Carb Muffins with Poppyseed and Coconut Oil

Low-carb here, there and everywhere… Lowering or eliminating carbohydrates is in everybody’s mouth, so to speak. Mostly, the goal of a low- or no-carb diet is to lose weight. My low-carb muffins however weren’t created for weight loss but rather as part of my quest to bake delicious flourless muffins. And lo and behold – the path led to success!

So Artishocking Good: The Artichoke!

The artichoke, a beautiful piece of fruit with a wonderful flavour, is not one many people dare to utilise much in their cooking. Why not? I have to admit that for the longest time, I only used artichokes from a jar or a tin myself. But when you finally get over yourself and try fresh ones, the difference is immediately apparent: the taste is incomparable and the preparation surprisingly simple.

Healthy Blueberry and Buckwheat Cake

A dessert like a beautiful poem: blueberry and buckwheat cake, featuring agave/maple syrup and medjool dates. This cake barely contains any fat and substitutes classic granulated sugar with agave or maple syrup and dates.

On Oranges, Vitamin C and a Delicious Orange and Almond Cake Recipe

It’s the same deal every year: as the outside temperatures decrease, the pre-Christmas stress increases and of course – hello to the runny nose! My own personal immune system boost is ginger – daily. although in the mornings, a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice might be more to your taste – I’m currently having one of those every day as well. It’s common knowledge that oranges are full of vitamin C and strengthen our immune system, but today, I’ll tell you much more about the most popular of vitamins as well as about our favourite orange citrus fruit…
