Raw Food Christmas Cookies

In the press, raw food is already being hailed as the next big trend. Unsurprisingly it comes from the US – from California, to be exact – and the beautiful and eternally youthful as well as those who aspire to be either or both, swear by it. So Hollywood has got itself a new hype, but one that’s actually healthy, low-calorie and more versatile than it seems at first glance! But most importantly: the raw foodies of today have very little in common with the grazers and crudité-nibblers of lore.

What a wonderful autumn we’re having – 20 degrees and plenty of sunshine, and it’s already November! But autumn doesn’t always charm us with its beauty and one of its great disadvantages is the fact that by 4:30pm, it’s already dark out, which makes us all a bit more tired and sluggish. I am someone who functions best at night, so I do most of my work in the evenings. But when it gets dark as early as it does right now, I am noticing my energy levels dip a bit. So Artishocking Good: The Artichoke!

The artichoke, a beautiful piece of fruit with a wonderful flavour, is not one many people dare to utilise much in their cooking. Why not? I have to admit that for the longest time, I only used artichokes from a jar or a tin myself. But when you finally get over yourself and try fresh ones, the difference is immediately apparent: the taste is incomparable and the preparation surprisingly simple.

A dessert like a beautiful poem: blueberry and buckwheat cake, featuring agave/maple syrup and medjool dates. This cake barely contains any fat and substitutes classic granulated sugar with agave or maple syrup and dates.

It’s the same deal every year: as the outside temperatures decrease, the pre-Christmas stress increases and of course – hello to the runny nose! My own personal immune system boost is ginger – daily. although in the mornings, a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice might be more to your taste – I’m currently having one of those every day as well.
